This site is primarily designed to be a my portfolio but it also acts as a notebook, experimental area and general playground for designs and ideas.

About David Radford

I live in Birmingham U.K. with my wife Anna, son Huw and cat Archie. I used to be a scientist, but have always had a passion for design and the web. I made myself responsible for designing, building and maintaining web sites for the various laboratories that I worked in, and so when my funding ran out I took the plunge (and a hefty chunk of my savings) and devoted my time to learning the finer arts of web design.

Big Red What?

So why is the site called bigredradish? Well, the radish part is easy enough - with a name like Radford, one of the inevitable nicknames is ‘Radish’. As for the Big Red, I’m not sure where that came from. When I was young our neighbours has a big red petrol lawn-mower (which I loved because it made so much noise!), I gave it the name ‘Big Red’ and it is a phrase that has stuck in my psyche ever since. I called my first computer ‘Big Red’ (even though it was neither big or red), I have a remote control monster truck called - ‘Big Red’ (now that is big and red), so the combination of ‘Big Red’ and Radish was inevitable I guess!
